Singing with the Stars

StarStruck Theatre

Artists for a Cause held its second annual Singing with the Stars fundraising event at StarStruck Theatre on Friday, February 20, 2015 at 7:00 p.m.

Congratulations to winners Leslie Levy & Charles Jones for taking home the Best Performance and Best Overall awards.

Congratulations to Shaun Kelly for winning the award for fundraising!

Along the lines of “The Voice,” Singing with the Stars has a Martin County twist—pairing noteable local stars with professional singers.  Each duo selected a song, practiced and prepared before they took the stage in front of a panel of judges who determined the winners based on singing and fundraising skills. The event was a spectacular evening of entertainment, and it uncovered the hidden talent in Martin County.

This year’s cast of Singing with the Stars was peppered with well-known members of the community in fields varying from Major League Baseball to Broadway. The professional singers were carefully selected by A4AC Founder and Executive Director Terry Barber and SWTS Director and StarStruck Theatre owner, Jennifer Jones.

Professional singers included: Avery Sommers, Broadway performer who appeared in Ain’t Misbehavin'Showboat and Chicago; Shelley Keelor, actress, entertainer and vocal teacher who most recently appeared in The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber at the Lyric Theatre; Peter Jones, musical director and owner of StarStruck Academy & Theatre who most recently starred in The Best of Broadway at StarStruck Theatre; and Charles Jones, actor and lead singer of a four piece band called SubGroove.

The local noteable community stars included: Anne Scott, Martin County Commissioner;  Rusty Meacham, Major League Baseball alumni; Leslie Levy, owner of Style Encore Stuart and Plato’s Closet; Shaun Kelly, owner of Perfectly Legal Office Solutions; Glenn Webber, Attorney; Rick Creech, civil engineering and surveying consultant and Hank Gonzalez of Sailfish Realty of Florida.

The event was about more than the glitz and glamour of performing on stage – the community stars were also tasked with raising funds for Artists for a Cause. While the cast is excited to get onstage and compete to win the Best Performance category, there was also an award category for the fundraising portion.

The Cotter’s Music Salon Series

A series of private events hosted by Tim & Maureen Cotter, avid supporters of Artists for a Cause.  Each event showcases the best up-and-coming performing artists in the A4AC network for an intimate crowd of arts supporters and industry professionals. Attendees were treated to an inspirational performance, and then invited to get to know the young artists over refreshments. Event proceeds support the programs of A4AC, which support artists as they use their talent to meet the critical needs of communities.
